Kanban, Plan and Workflow
A goal has one Kanban board. The board is divided into stages, and each stage holds tasks. Kanban shows tasks by status. Plan shows stages by date.
How it fits together
Goal, then Kanban board, then stages, then tasks. Press K on a goal, or open Kanban from the rail and choose a goal in the empty state, then choose Create Kanban.
Stages in Plan
Stages are dated phases of a goal. You create them in Plan (press P, or choose View Plan).
- Click anywhere on the timeline, or choose Start stage 1. A faint + New stage marker follows your pointer. Shaded areas are blocked.
- Click Click to edit stage name and type a name.
- Drag the start and end handles to set dates, or open the date picker.
- Stages run one after another. A stage can start on the day the previous one ends, but not earlier.
- A stage that has tasks cannot be deleted. Move or delete its tasks first.
Add and move tasks
- Press N to add a task to the current stage. Type the name and press Enter. Esc cancels.
- Press @ to schedule it. The date must fall inside the stage dates.
- Press Cmd/Ctrl + Enter to add a note.
Every stage shows four columns: Todo, Doing, Wait and Complete. Drag a card between columns, or select it, press / and choose a status with 1 (Todo), 2 (Doing), 3 (Wait) or 4 (Complete). Press Delete or Backspace to delete a card, and Undo if you change your mind. Press Cmd/Ctrl + F to search the board.
Press V (or the button next to Search) for the compact view. Each stage sits in one band, a column shows up to 5 tasks, and Show N more reveals the rest. Hover the thin line under a stage and choose Task or Workflow to add there.
Workflows
A workflow is a named template of steps, for example Launch a feature. Press W to open it.
- Choose Add new, give the workflow a name and write one step per line.
- Choose Save workflow. Drag a step card to reorder, or edit a step in place.
- Hover the thin line under a stage, choose Workflow and pick one. Each step becomes one task in that stage.
Switch, archive and delete boards
- Press S to switch to another Kanban board.
- Press , (comma) for the Kanban menu: Archive, Archived and Delete.
- Archived boards stay in Archived Kanban boards, where you can choose Restore.
- Delete removes the board and its tasks permanently.
